Coach Kriss Burrell is PAL’s line coach of both offense and defense for 2 years now. If there is one thing Coach Burrell is about, its working with the youth of Minneapolis. He got his Bachelors degree in Psychology, specifically Urban Child Behavior, and has been using it in Minneapolis school districts for twenty-two years now. He played college football at North Dakota, and loves the game for what it is. Coach Burrell is a Child Development Technician (CDT) and works with youth of all sorts in Minneapolis. He has worked at Powderhorn, Roosevelt, and Broadway schools. He is a stand up guy and is working to make a difference everyday in the community. Coach Burrell’s smile is contagious here at PAL and we are lucky to have him coaching here.

Coach Tim Nelson has coached 13u football for 13 years, although this is his first with PAL. He originally is from Dallas, Texas, but graduated from South Minneapolis. He earned Blue Chip All American as a Running back at TCU (Texas Christian University). Coach Nelson has a great nose for football especially offense. He is the current offensive coordinator for PAL and with his arrival at PAL has come some interesting plays and strategies that will help our players move up in their football lives. Coach Tim is a family man with four children. He is very proud of his kids; two are attending university while the other two are in high school. Coach Tim Nelson fits right in with our style of play and brings a lot to the table. We are happy to have him!

Organizations like Minneapolis PAL would not exist without the generosity of hundreds of people who answer the call to volunteer their time to help others. PAL uses volunteers to perform many different tasks ranging from helping to coach and mentor youth to writing articles, driving kids to programming, and organizing equipment. Volunteers do not always get to share in the glory but without their help it would be impossible to get all the work done.
At PAL we believe it’s important to show our appreciation for the work volunteers do. This tribute is dedicated to one of our valued volunteers, Lucas Schmidt.
Lucas’s Corner
His name is Lucas Wayne Schmidt, also known to the coaching staff and football children as “Coach Schmitty” Lucas is interning with PAL as an Assistant Program Manager. Lucas attends Winona State University where he is studying Recreation Tourism and Therapeutic Recreation (RTTR).
Lucas has been working closely with Minneapolis PAL football teams (9U, 11U, and 13U) since August of 2011. He also assisted the teams during weigh ins that were held at the 2011 Football Games Classic at the Minneapolis Metrodome. Lucas, who happens to be First Aid and CPR certified, has already used his skills to assist children on and off of the football field.
